Searcy, a crossroads community of 20,000 + is a major trade and medical center for north-central Arkansas. Its citizens, city leaders, and business community have worked diligently to create a lovely family-sized town and to maintain a healthy, human-paced lifestyle that’s environmentally friendly.

Nestled in the foothills of the Ozarks to its north and west and with the farm and the bottomland of the delta to the south and east, Searcy citizens can take advantage of a wide variety of recreational and business pursuits. Searcy is the county seat of White County which was created in 1835 from parts of surrounding counties in the Arkansas Territory. White county is the second largest county by land mass in the state and contains more county roads then any other county in Arkansas.

Searcy (local pronunciation: SUR see) is the largest city and county seat of White County, Arkansas, United States. According to 2006 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the city is 20,663.

Searcy is the home of Harding University, a private university affiliated with the Churches of Christ and the state’s largest private university. Harding College (now Harding University) moved in 1934 from Morrilton to Searcy, where the university has evolved and expanded to include several undergraduate and graduate degrees. Harding University is the largest private university in Arkansas.

Regional ice cream producer and distributor Yarnell Ice Cream Co. has its headquarters in the city’s downtown area.

Searcy is served by two public school districts. Searcy Public Schools — including Searcy High School, three elementary schools and middle and junior high campuses — serve all but the far eastern portion of the city. That portion of the city is within the Riverview School District — a consolidation of districts serving Kensett, Griffithville, Judsonia, and surrounding communities in southeastern White County extending to West Point and Georgetown. Previously, the Riverview portion of Searcy was part of the Kensett school district; Riverview High School was built in eastern Searcy following the consolidation.

Harding Academy is a K-12 preparatory school in Searcy. Harding University runs the school, which resides on its campus.

Arkansas State University – Searcy, formerly Foothills Technical Institute, is a technical campus of nearby Arkansas State University – Beebe offering several two-year programs. In order to create drilling jobs for the benefit of the local populace, ASU-Searcy has partnered with a booming, local natural gas industry that is currently exploring and tapping the rich geologic formation known as the Fayetteville Shale.
